The TIE/fo space superior fighter, commonly known as the First Order Tie Fighter, was a starfighter used by the First Order.  The TIE/fo is a product of Sienar-Jaemus Fleet System just as its predecessor, the TIE/ln space superiority starfighter.  However, the TIE/fo versus the TIE/ln featured internal advancements with greater defensive capabilities that its
predecessors did not resulting in greater survivability of the craft.

Being that the First Order was a military junta inspired by the Galactic Empire it decided to keep the general design for the TIE/ln space superiority fighter.  However, because it was a junta and not subject to a political bureaucracy this allowed it’s engineers to more easily introduce and produce technological improvements for its original design eventually resulting in the TIE/fo.  Those improvments that were made were on board deflector
shields for greater defensive and offensive capabilities, improved solar cells, and higher capacity power converters.  All of these improvements were a result of the philosophical difference between the First Order and the Galactic Empire due to their smaller numbers.  The First Order instead of viewing their pilots not as cannon fodder instead viewed them as critical assets.  This unfortunately resulted in the TIE/fo while being more expensive and
complex then its predecessor it was still not as versatile as the T70 X-Wing
used by the Resistance which worked towards its detriment.

In viewing the pilot as a critical asset the TIE/fo was designed to house a single TIE pilot and have him aided by a Torplex flight computer, T-sj1a targeting computer, subspace communications antenna, sensor array, and even a shield generator to create an onboard deflector shield.  The pilot was also encased in a transparisteel main view and top viewport at the center of the vessel.

Offensively, the TIE/fo featured two SJFS L-s9.6 laser cannons underneath the vessel with the assistance of targeting sensor optics.  The TIE/fo eventually lead the to the development and inspired the creation of the TIE/sf space superiority fighter.  The TIE/sf being a two seated variety of the TIE/fo upgraded with a variety of more advanced weaponry intended for the use by special forces.
